What We Don’t Know About Each Other

Before the Sunrise Gifts Us Another Day

A tragic incident at work inspired me to write this.

How many people you’ve seen today
not knowing that one of two of them
would take their last breath shortly
or the next day?

How many people you’ve seen today
not knowing that half of them
have been battling through
terminal illnesses and now they just want
to experience life as much as
they can before they’re bed ridden?

How many people you’ve seen today
not knowing that all of them
have mental health crises that
they are either running away from
or indulging in?

How many people you’ve seen today
not knowing that most of them have
been contemplating to end their lives
because they believe nothing is
worth living anymore?

How many people you’ve seen today
not knowing that you wonder about them,
their secret fights, and their interesting stories?

How many people you’ve seen today
not knowing that they also think of you
the same way?

You’ll never know.
No one knows.
Only God knows, as we say.

So can we all be kind and get along
even before the sunrise gifts us
another day?
